Cayuga I.S.D. Addresses Incident Involving Prohibited Item at Cayuga Middle School
On 04/24/2026 administrators at Cayuga Middle School and Cayuga I.S.D.
Police Department were alerted to the presence of a prohibited item on campus. A
student brought their back pack to an administrator and told them they had accidentally
brought a BB-gun pistol to school in their backpack. The student was not aware of the
item being in the backpack until it was noticed during class. Following an immediate
investigation by school officials and Cayuga I.S.D. Police Department, the item was
determined to be in fact a BB-gun pistol.
The item was confiscated without incident. At no time were students or staff in any
immediate danger, and no threats were made. The Cayuga I.S.D. Police Department
determined there was no criminal intent; however, the student will face disciplinary
action in accordance with the Cayuga I.S.D. Student Code of Conduct.
"The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority," said Superintendent Dr.
Joe Satterwhite and Middle School Principal Amy Kelley. "We are grateful to the
individuals who followed the 'See Something, Say Something' protocol, which allowed
our team to resolve this matter quickly and safely."
Cayuga I.S.D. reminds families that Texas law and district policy strictly prohibit all
weapons, including look-alikes and air-powered devices like BB guns, on all school
property and at school-sponsored events.
Parents are encouraged to speak with their children about the serious consequences of
bringing prohibited items to school. For more information on how to talk to your child
about school safety or for resources on Safe Firearm Storage, please visit

Under student privacy requirements, the district will not release further details regarding
the student’s identity or specific disciplinary measures.
