Notes from Dr. Satterwhite

Faculty and Staff of Cayuga ISD,

The weather during the past couple of days has been amazing.  The cooler fall air is refreshing and I hope you had a chance to get outdoors and do something this past weekend.  Below are a couple of thoughts.

Great teachers understand that it is a marathon and not a sprint.

  • I wanted to take a moment and commend the staff on a productive start to the school year.  This does not just happen by chance.  There is a direct correlation to leadership and I am very proud of our campus leadership.  We have three amazing principals, Ms. Campbell, Mr. Williams, and Mr. Thompson, leading the way.

  • I want to thank our teachers for cranking it up in this first month of instruction.  Great teachers understand that it is a marathon and not a sprint.  Outstanding student performance is the product of working hard at learning every day.  You cannot just turn on the jets a month before the state assessment.  It takes a dedicated and continual effort on a daily basis to bring about effective results.

  • I really appreciate the labors of the maintenance and custodial staff.  They work tirelessly behind the scenes to keep the school buildings and grounds looking in a such a way that we can all take pride in our campus.

  • For many students each day begins and ends with a ride on a CISD school bus.  We can always use additional drivers.  If you are interested in becoming a substitute driver please contact Joey Fitzgerald in the transportation department for details on becoming certified to drive a school bus.

  • Bond Projects and Construction Updates:  The design phase of the softball and baseball field projects are nearing completion.  The bonds have sold and just this past week on September 5th, Cayuga ISD took possession of the $12,000,000 dollars to fund the construction of the projects.  Next is the procurement phase.  If any of you have a connection with a company or entity that would like to participate in the bid process for work associated with the projects, please share this information and they can reach out to us using the email address – bids@cayugaisd.com.  This email address will put them into contact with the construction managing agent for our projects.

  • Our extracurricular programs are going strong.  Cross country is off and running.  Volleyball and football should complete the pre-district schedule this month before beginning district competition in October.  The band is larger than usual this year and they have been working on an exciting western themed show.  The first cast of the fishing tournament season takes place this month on Lake Palestine.  The FFA is already showing animals at the East Texas State Fair.

  • There are several clubs and organizations in Cayuga ISD for secondary students.  There is no better time to encourage our Cayuga Wildcats to get involved.  FFA, FCCLA, Student Council, National Honor Society, Interact, Robotics, and Yearbook are some of the ways kids can contribute and make a difference.  Homecoming week on October 21 – 25 will also be our Spirit of Service Week with several fun activities to participate in supporting the local humane society.

  • I enjoyed seeing all of the grandparents who came up to the elementary last week to support their grandchildren.  We appreciate all the support this special group gives to Cayuga ISD.

Thank you all for a great start to the 2024-2025 school year.
